Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up living in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). Then she joined NBC News Washington two years after that as an general reporter. In 1981, she began covering for the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to chief congressional correspondent. Mitchell became the the chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was a guest in the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. Mitchell was a panelist during 1988's presidential debates, which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for the John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her work to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to cover White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. The reporting she did included plenty of important stories like the Iran-contra scandal, the budget and tax reform in addition to the issue of arms control. She traveled widely together with President Reagan during summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
